The main difference between Mobile NDR Version 1.1 and our previous (beta) versions is that beginning with version 1.1, we now support the linkage of Mobile NDR with NDRG publications that are distributed to your BlackBerry (BB) email in-box. That is, once your BB has been registered with Ned Davis Research Group (NDRG), clicking on a product hyperlink from an email will instantiate Mobile NDR if it is not already running in the background, or bring the application to the foreground if it is. In either case, if the publication that was requested is still on our servers, it will be automatically displayed.
The first time you start the Mobile NDR application, the system will have to determine who you are. You will be asked to provide your NDRG login and password. Once the system has validated you, your BB PIN will be recognized every time you start the application. Note that due to the proprietary nature of our research, we have disabled all ability in the application to copy, paste, email, or otherwise save or share excerpts of our publications.
The Mobile NDR Recent Pubs Menu displays links to relatively recent versions of our publications. The pubs list can be refreshed from the BB button menu at any time to ensure that you are looking at the most recently available list of publications. Note that if you leave Mobile NDR running on your BB overnight or longer, the pubs menu will be automatically refreshed the first time you attempt to take an action on the system in order to ensure that the system has not reached a stale condition.
Mobile NDR provides two modes in which to view our publications:
Text Only Mode - Relatively fast-loading versions of our publications that display the publications' commentary only. To view any charts or tables shown in a publication, you must toggle over to Full Pub Mode.
Full Pub Mode - A graphical snapshot of the full PDF version of the publication, including charts and tables, viewable one page at a time, with zooming and panning capabilities. Note that for simplicity and copyright security, the hyperlinks in the publications will not be selectable.
You can toggle the mode in which you are viewing a publication from the BB menu. The mode in which you last viewed a publication, full or text-only, will be stored and used the next time you view a publication.
Zooming and Panning
In Full Pub mode, the publication will be very difficult to view and read without zooming in to areas of interest and then panning across text and charts. The methodology by which zooming and panning is accomplished is dependent on the BB model and operating system (OS). Zoom functions are selectable from the BB menu and can be manipulated with the trackwheel; you can also zoom touch screen models by clicking on the screen. Depending on the BB model, panning is accomplished by selecting "Zoom" a second time and then panning with the trackwheel, or by dragging a finger across the screen.
Mobile NDR depends on the BB having a reliable Internet connection in order to communicate with NDRG servers. Most of the problems people might experience while using Mobile NDR are a result of some type of problem with Internet connectivity from their BB.
Checking Mobile NDR Internet connectivity:
When the Mobile NDR app is running and trying to make a connection to NDRG servers, a splash screen will be displayed and arrows will appear in the upper right hand corner of the screen. The absence of these arrows for more than a few seconds indicates a possible Internet connection problem. This suspicion can be confirmed by checking your carrier specific connectivity indicators, and supported further by testing other wireless connectivity. Change your location or contact your carrier if you are having Internet connectivity issues.
Mobile NDR splash screen appears, but pubs menu or pub never appears, or you get a time-out error while connecting to NDRG:
Check Internet connectivity as described above.
You get a DNS error while connecting to NDRG:
Report this problem to your carrier.
